The course treats culture, school and society in the multilingual Sweden of today regarding migration, language policy and language and identity. Further, the swedish language is analysed on phological, morphological and syntactical levels from a contrastive analytical approach with focus on language features causing difficulties in learning swedish as a second language. Didactic tools for teaching swedish as a second language are discussed. The course also focuses on theories for second language acquisition, models for assessment of language development. Students will gain basic understanding for multilingual learners' reading and writing development, literacy and the importance of literacy background for academic success.
