Arne Ljungqvist 

Professor Arne Ljungqvist, internationally known doctor of sports and advocate of anti-doping, has been appointed to be an honorary doctor at the University of Gävle.

He will receive the mark of honor at an academic ceremony later this spring.

Arne Ljungqvist, born 1931, doctor and professor, is the foremost international front figure for work concerning anti-doping within sports. Through the Professor Arne Ljungqvist Anti-doping Foundation he has highlighted doping as a social problem.

Partnership

Professor Arne Ljungqvist Anti-doping Foundation has been partnering with the University of Gävle since 2012. Within the partnership Arne Ljungqvist has been able to boost, nationally as well as internationally, the University’s newly founded sport scientific program and also the research within the field of anti-doping.  

Arne Ljungkvist is involved within several activities at the University of Gävle. He has held symposia and given lectures. The only doctor in Scandinavia within the subjects of sport science focusing on anti-doping is located at the university and is also connected to the Professor Arne Ljungqvist Anti-doping Foundation.

Arne Ljungkvist has also been a driving force when it comes to the nomination of the University of Gävle for the prestigious prize Ren Idrott (Clean sports). At present Arne Ljungkvist is taking part in a book project that is themed anti-doping. The book, which is the first of its kind in the particular subject, will be published by the University of Gävle.



Ceremony at academic holiday
Arne Ljungkvist will receive his mark of honor at the university’s academic ceremony April the 25th at the Gävle concert hall together with an additional two newly appointed honorary doctors, the Egyptian author Nawal El Saadawi and Per Laurell, CEO of Gävle Energi.
