The World Heritage Farmhouses in Hälsingland are being preserved with the help of the University of Gävle

Hälsingegård

Since June 2012 Gävleborg has a World Heritage listing– the decorated farmhouses of Hälsingland. There is a drive at the university now to increase the contribution the university can make towards the development of the World Heritage.

With the help of a grant from Region Gävleborg and the University of Gävle, a group from the university are going to lead the development of, and research into the farmhouses of Hälsingland.

“The farmhouses of Hälsingland are very close to my heart and I see it as a privilege to make a contribution towards our world heritage,” says Åsa Morberg, assistant project leader.

Increasing awareness

Basing the knowledge of the farmhouses of Hälsingland/the World Heritage on research, by collaborating with other institutes of higher education for example, is what it is about.

Even other interested parties such as farm owners, Region Gävleborg, the county administrative board and museums, Arkiv Gävleborg and the Gävle Konstcentrum will participate in the studies on the farmhouses of Hälsingland.

Involving students

One wants to create greater interest for the farmhouses of Hälsingland by encouraging students at the university to use the World Heritage Farmhouses in their independent studies.

At the University of Gävle internal and external interdisciplinary seminars are planned and a “Farmhouses of Hälsingland corner” is going to be installed in the library.

Current situation

At present the group consists of two representatives from each faculty and the Department for Communications and Strategic Partnerships. This is in order to enable research from different perspectives and in the future carry out interdisciplinary projects.

“It is very important that we in this way ensure the university’s contribution in promoting and creating the value of the World Heritage Farmhouses of Hälsingland,” says Jan Akander, leader of the project.
