New honorary doctors at the University of Gävle

New honorary doctors at the University of Gävle are Barbro Holmberg former Govorner of Gävleborg County, Professor Roland Kadefors and Professor Stephen Stansfeld. All of them have made great contributions towards research and development at the University of Gävle and will be appointed at the academic ceremony on the 21st of April 2016.

Barbro Holmberg

 

Barbro Holmberg, former Govorner of Gävleborg County, director-general for the Swedish Migration Agency and Minister for Migration will be granted an honorary doctorate within the area of Health-promoting Working Life at the University of Gävle. She is commemorated for her insight on the importance of a good education and her contributions and support for the education and research provided by the University and for the benefit of the development of society.

She has had an intense commitment to the collaborative mandate of the University to strengthen the transfer of knowledge to businesses in the county. Amongst other things she took the initiative towards creating a meeting place for the companies in the county and researchers from the University of Gävle "Researchers at the residence", that took place between 2014 and 2015 and was very much appreciated by both businesses and researchers.

Roland Kadefors

 

Professor Roland Kadefors, at the Department for Sociology and Work Science, Gothenburg University, will be granted an honorary doctorate within the field Health-promoting Working Life at the University of Gävle.

He is commemorated for taking a central role so that research within Health-promoting Working Life has reached the notable position it holds today, both nationally and internationally, both directly through his work for the University of Gävle and otherwise through his comprehensive contribution to the development of research within occupational health sciences.

He is a central figure in the development of research in the occupational health sciences both in Sweden and internationally. He has been a representative for the research community at the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research (CBF:s) board and an important discussion partner in CBF:s successful application for its Fortecentrum grant for "The body at work – from problem to potential" 2009.

Stehpen Senfeld

Professor Stephen Stansfeld, at Queen Mary & Westfield College in London, will be granted an honorary doctorate within the field of Built Environment at the University of Gävle.

He is commemorated for his significant contribution so that the research at the University of Gävle within environmental psychology has such high quality and is internationally renowned and respected.

He is an internationally known researcher on noise pollution and plays a leading role in the European and international noise-pollution network. He has been vitally important for the development of research on the psychological effects of noise pollution at the University of Gävle and actively contributed to the fact that the University has a place on the list of the world’s most important places for research on noise pollution.
