Ingegerd Palmér New Chair of the University Board at University of Gävle

The Swedish Government has appointed Ingegerd Palmér, former Vice-chancellor of Luleå University of Technology and Mälardalen University, as new chair of the University Board at University of Gävle. She will take office on 1 May, 2017.

“I am looking forward to leading the University Board of the University of Gävle. The Board is responsible for overseeing that the University implements its mission and that its important. But the fun part is to support leaders, employees and students in their effort to develop the University,” Ingegerd Palmér says.

“There are many positive things to be said about the University of Gävle. It is a great asset to have two strong research areas, Built Environment and Health-promoting Working Life, with degree-awarding powers in third-cycle education. The range of study programmes offered is linked to these research areas but there is also a great demand today for teachers, nurses and engineers.”

Ingegerd Palmér has solid experience of leading higher education institutions. She was Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology for almost 12 years and of Mälardalen University for more than 5 years. The fact that she now lives in Uppsala and is close at hand is also convenient.

“As departing Vice-Chancellor, I am very pleased that it is Ingegerd Palmér who will lead our University Board in the future. She has great experience of the challenges a higher education institution may face,” Vice-Chancellor Maj-Britt Johansson says.

The Swedish Government has made the final decision to appoint the following people as external members of the University Board of the University of Gävle for the time period of 1 May 2017 - 30 April 2020:
