Help us slow down the spread of infection

2021-03-23

The spread of infection in Gävleborg remains high and the situation is serious. The county has been hit by extensive social spread of the British virus variant, and the infection is spreading more and more quickly.

– As a student at the University of Gävle, I would like to remind you that your behaviour matters. Don’t go to parties and avoid meeting other people whenever possible, even if you feel completely healthy, says Maria Strand, Head of the Division of Educational Support at the University.

The trend of increasing spread of infection is very clear in Gävle, but it is also visible in Sandviken.

On Monday 15 March, Region Uppsala issued a statement warning that a more contagious variant of the coronavirus is spreading among students in Uppsala’s student housing.

In light of the increasing spread of infection in Gävleborg and the situation that has arisen in Uppsala, Maria Strand, Head of the Division of Educational Support at the University, is now appealing to all students:

– In this serious moment, here is what I would like to say right now to all our students: Look after yourself and take care of yourself, your family and your friends. Don’t go and visit other people and avoid parties. Stay at home and, if possible, avoid meeting people at all, even if you yourself feel completely healthy. If you suspect that you may have been exposed to infection, isolate yourself and get tested if you experience symptoms that you suspect may be COVID-19, says Maria Strand.

It remains important that everyone adheres to the restrictions in order to break the cycle of infection.

– A large proportion of the spread of infection occurs in school environments and workplaces. You can be contagious for up to two days before you experience symptoms. In practice, this means that you have time to infect many people without even knowing that you are doing so. It is therefore incredibly important that you really keep at least two meters’ distance from your fellow human beings. This applies both indoors and outdoors, says Shah Jalal, an infectious disease physician at Region Gävleborg.

At the slightest symptom – get tested!

Follow the recommendations and reduce the spread of COVID-19

The regional recommendations in Gävleborg are a local reinforcement of the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s current general regulations and advice.
