Lars Bengtsson explains that if one looks at the Swedish Research Council's bibliometric index and then considers the University's overall research funding, it becomes clear that University of Gävle is in the lead regarding the extent to which our researchers' results are cited.
The fact that articles are cited by other researchers signals that many researchers have studied and used the research in question and that it has an impact. The Swedish Research Council's bibliometric index therefore measures the quality of research.

“University of Gävle has had a very positive development regarding the number of publications in recent years. This is a result of an increase in the scale of our research paired with a clear focus on seeking publication in scientific journals.”
“It is very rewarding to see that we are so effective from a quality perspective, even though our share of direct government funding for research is very limited in a national perspective,” says Lars Bengtsson.
The diagram shows the Swedish Research Council's bibliometric index for 2020 (which is based on publications 2015-2018), divided by the university's total research funding according to the Swedish Higher Education Authority for the period 2014-2017.
An average over four years is used to even out variations between individual years. The shift between the periods is based on the assumption that it takes at least a year before research funds are sold in publications.
