Degree Certificates

You must apply for the degree certificate yourself and you can send in your application once you have finished your studies. A degree certificate is a verification that you, through your studies, have acquired knowledge and abilities up to a certain level.

Digital degree certificates

From January 1st the University of Gävle starts to issue degree certificates digitally. The certificates will be verifiable directly over the Internet. The digital degree certificates will replace degree certificates printed on paper. The issued certificate will be sent to your e-mail address. Please remember to check that you have the right e-mail address in Ladok.

Applying for a degree certificate

You apply for your degree certificate at the university where you completed the last course of your education. Your application will be assessed against the applicable national and local graduation rules. At University of Gävle, you apply direct via Ladok.

Check your information before you apply

Only courses with a final grade, that is finished courses in Ladok, may be included in the degree certificate issued by the University of Gävle.

Please do not apply for a degree certificate until you have verified that all the courses that you intend to include in the degree certificate have been reported as finished courses in Ladok. If you apply for a degree certificate before all courses are completed and reported in Ladok, your application will, most likely, be dismissed.

  1. So before you apply for a degree certificate you need to check that all the courses you want to include in your degree are reported as finished in Ladok. Please contact the faculty in question for any measurements regarding grades, before submitting your application.

  2. You also need to check that all the personal information is correct in Ladok. Data of first name and surname in the degree certificate is transferred from Ladok at the time of issue, and cannot be changed in an already issued degree certificate. So please check your information and if something is wrong, you can contact ladoksupport@hig.se for a correction, before applying for degree certificate.

Your name can not be changed in a issued degree certificate

The first name(s) and the surname(s) in the issued degree certificate are the names automatically transferred from Ladok at the time of issue. Before applying for a degree certificate you must check that the correct names and the correct spelling are registered in Ladok. If anything needs correction, please contact ladoksupport@hig.se. Apply for degree certificate after any correction. We can not change your name in a degree certificate already issued.

How to apply for a degree certificate in Ladok

The Degree Certificate Includes

The degree certificate states the degree awarded, the courses included, course grades and the date they were completed. The degree certificate is in both Swedish and English. Additionally, you receive a diploma supplement which is an appendix in English describing the implemented education and its place in the educational system.

Office Turnaround Time

The office turnaround time varies during the year and depends on the nature of the application but normal processing time is six to eight weeks from the date the University of Gävle receives a complete application. It is not possible to speed up individual cases nor to gain priority. All applications are processed as quickly as possible. The degree certificate will be sent to you by e-mail as soon as it is issued, based on the address information in Ladok. You can check, and change, the e-mail address yourself through Ladok.

Grading system

  1. A Excellent, B Very Good, C Good, D Satisfactory, E Sufficient, F Fail, FX Fail (some more work required to pass)
  2. G Pass / Pass Course only, U Fail
  3. G Pass, VG Pass with Distinction, U Fail

Grade Point Average

There is no national grading system in Sweden. The Swedish higher education institutions may determine freely which grading system is to be used for any of the courses on offer. Partly due to this variety of grading systems, no overall grade or GPA is given for a degree certificate and our graduate students are not ranked in any way.

There is also no officially determined methodology for translating the Swedish grades to any other foreign grading system.

Higher Education Credits

According to the most recent graduate regulations each degree must consist of exactly the number of credits stipulated, that is, neither more nor fewer credits than allowed.
