Approved leave from Studies

An approved leave from studies is a break in your study programme, for a fixed period, granted by the university. You retain your place on the programme and have guaranteed admission to the following semester, provided the University of Gävle still offers the courses in question.

If you terminate your studies without notifying the university you are considered to have made a non-completion.

Approved leave from studies is granted:

  • at the earliest after one semester of studying on your programme
  • only if you are registered for all courses the first semester
  • for a maximum of two semesters

But not for:

  • only part of a semester
  • for freestanding courses

If you already are registered on a programme course during present semester you do not need to apply for an approved leave for that semester.
Please note that if you are a tuition fee paying student with a residence permit for studies and take a study leave your residence permit will be withdrawn.

Application for Approved Leave from Studies

You apply for approved leave by completing the form “Application for approved leave from studies”. You can complete courses you have already started, within the programme, during your approved leave. Contact your faculty in that case.

Resuming Your Studies

It is solely your responsibility to apply, to the programme courses, for the semester you will resume your studies. If you do not apply in time you risk losing your study place. Application deadline is 15th April for the autumn semester and 15th October for the spring semester.

Please notify the University if you do not intend to resume your studies.
