In Media and Communication Studies, we study the importance of media for society, cultures and humanity. Our programmes and courses provide a wide understanding of media structures, media content, media production conditions and media use. We apply a historical as well as a contemporary perspective, where the emergence of and importance of media, and changes in Sweden as well as internationally are in focus. We target not only traditional media like the press, radio and TV, but also digital media and new forms of media.
Our research in Media Studies, carried out here at the University of Gävle, thrives in the intersection between media history, media politics, political communication and strategic communication. Our research is also characterised by cultural theory and media aesthetics perspectives.
Our courses provide knowledge and skills which are in great demand in today’s job market, not least within the field of communication and PR. Our programme also qualifies you for third-cycle education in media studies.
