Pain among elderly people

Pain among elderly people with or without cognitive impairment.

- an intervention study enquiring after the perspectives of the elderly as well as their close relatives and caretakers

This is a cooperation project between the University of Gävle and Hudiksvall municipality.
In sub-study 1, the aim is to:

  • study the occurrence of pain among elderly people with and without cognitive impairment in secure housing (SÄBO), before and after the introduction of the Doloplus-2 scale and the VAS scale
  • define measures based on the pain assessments
  • study what events can contribute to pain.

The validity and reliability of the Doloplus-2 scale shall be studied.

The intention of sub-study 2 is to paint a picture of medical treatment, healthcare and the daily life of elderly people with cognitive impairment with a focus on pain and its effects on daily activities, based on the logbook entries of care personnel and close relatives.

The intention of sub-study 3 is two-fold; first, to illustrate the medical treatment, healthcare and the daily life of elderly people with cognitive impairment before and after the introduction of the pain assessment tool, Doloplus-2, based on focus group interviews with healthcare personnel and close relatives, and second, to define behaviours which can indicate pain.

In cooperation with the local municipality
