Study Programme in Social Work 210 cr

A social worker’s role is to support the development of a good standard of living for people and prevent and alleviate the emergence of social problems. What is unique about this course is that people are seen as reciprocators in different social systems where the individual, groups and community react with each other.

Theory, practice and personal development

In the social work programme we strive to link together theory on humans and society with practical skills and personal development. Course assignments are based on creating understanding for social problems and processes of change in conjunction with field placements.

During the course the emphasis will also be put on personal and professional development making use of self examination and collaboration with fellow students and lecturers.

Competence that is increasingly in demand

Jobs can be found for example, in the social services with individual and family welfare, at prisons and addiction treatment centres or as a counsellor in schools and healthcare.

Social workers can also be found in private organisations that conduct social work. The demand for social workers is great, mostly due to the number of future retirements.

Distance learning based on place of study

It is a full time course and you will be part of a permanent study group at the place of acceptance; Gävle, Bollnäs, Hudiksvall, Norrtälje or Södertälje. You will be expected to attend your place of study once or twice a week and on average once a week for examinations at the University of Gävle.

On successful completion of the course you will be eligible for studies at an advanced level. The future calls for more qualified social workers!
