Borrowing books

To be able to borrow printed books, you need to be a registered user and have a library card.

Borrowing books

The simplest way to find our books is via the library catalogue.

You can borrow books using our self-service machines.

Course books can be borrowed for 14 days and other books for 28 days.

All course books can be found on the ground level (level 2). The other books can be found on level 3 and on the basement level (level 1).

The Library has two copies of most course books, one for lending and a reference copy that is not for loan. At the start of each course, we review and supplement course literature based on current literature lists. If any course book disappears during the duration of the course, it will not be replaced until the next course start date.

All course books, both printed and electronic, can be found in our library catalogue. E-books may be read online or downloaded for 1-3 days. Printed course books are labelled on the spine with KURS. All course books are located on the ground level of the Library. They may be borrowed for 14 days and incur a late fee of 10 SEK per day and book.

Literature other than course books can be borrowed for four weeks.

If we do not have the book or full text article you require for your studies, we may be able to request it from another library via interlibrary loan.

You can log in to your library account using your library card number or your personal ID number and PIN to renew your loans if they are not reserved by someone else. You can renew your loans a maximum of ten times.

If the book you wish to borrow is on loan, you may join the queue by placing a reservation on the book yourself. Reservations can only be made on books that are on loan.

If you are neither employed by the University of Gävle nor a student at another university, you may still register as an external user. External users may borrow printed books, apart from our course books. We do not request interlibrary loans for you but refer you instead to your nearest public library.

You can also search our databases using a guest account which is available by request during our staffed opening hours.

Late fees and replacement for books

Course books can be borrowed for 14 days and incur a fee if returned late. If you owe more than 50 kr, you will not be able to borrow additional items or make reservations.

Reimbursement for damaged or lost books

The reimbursement total for a lost book is the purchase price of the book plus a 100 kr administration fee. You may also purchase a new book yourself and deliver it to the library, in which case there is no charge. Books that cannot be purchased are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Payment alternatives

The late fee for course books is 10 kr per book and day, the maximum amount per return and book is 300 kr and 1200 kr per borrower.

If you come to the Library during our staffed opening hours, you can pay the fee by card or Swish. If you are unable to come to the Library, you can pay via Högskolan i Gävle's bank account number: 5050 - 5809. As a payment message, use: 3146-9701-9101-95-99. Send an e-mail to biblioteket@hig.se with your name and a copy of the payment receipt so that we can confirm your payment.

Returning books

During the Library’s opening hours, you can return books via our self-service machines. When the Library is closed, you can return books in our book drop, which is located outside the Library’s east entrance.

Please note that your books will not be registered as returned until the library staff have checked them in when the information desk opens again.
